Love to Make

Part of the 'Love to Sew' series, this is another delightful collection of projects from the author of Half Yard Heaven and Half Yard Christmas. All the projects can be made by a beginner as the requirements are simple and the instructions are clear. Debbie uses imaginative, free-machine embroidery on quite a few simple items to liven them up and brighten up your home. This book will make an excellent present for a young or new sewer ... We especially love the bottle cosy and the cafetiere cover and there's also a fun toaster cover designed like a caravan.

I'm new to quilting and Debbie's range of books are brilliant for me. Debbie has designed the projects in this book so they are as simple as possible. This doesn't make the designs any less and if you are more seasoned she wants you to add your own flourish to her designs. Debbie takes you through the basics at the start of the book. This covers everything from materials, tools and techniques. There are clear instructions with pictures to make it easier for you to understand. I love Debbie's tips that help you. Sometimes as a beginner it's those little things that make such a difference once you have learnt them. Wow what an amazing amount of projects. I love Debbie's use of colour and fun designs that make you smile. They are bright cheerful and so much fun. Each of the projects are fun to make and quite a quick make so you can get a quick fix easily. They are perfect for a beginner but yet ideal for any level of sewer. There are so many of the projects that I want to make as gifts for friends and family. It's a book that will make you smile and keep you happy whilst making. This is another fantastic addition to the Love to Sew range and Debbie Shore's books.

Contemporary style, easy-to-sew accessories for the home. From quilted tea cosies to tablet covers, there are 18 projects. This book has cute designs that have wide appeal. Theres nothing really new shape-wise but Debbie brings individual style and a clean modern look to timeless patterns. An excellent stocking filler for those new to sewing. The basic quilting and sewing section will help beginners with its step by step instructions that include mitred corners. Templates have been provided. Wrap it, protect it and cover it

There are many items that require a cover to perform at their best, or merely to act as a case to prevent damage.  Why not make these items yourself and make them attractive to match your décor?  They also make great gifts.

As does this book if you can bear to part with it.  This is a good book for those who have not done quilting before to practice some different skills, and at the front is a section where you can learn the basics.  Get to grips with piping, quilting essentials, making bias binding to match your project, mitring corners and more before tackling a project.  Total sewing beginners are advised to learn the fundamentals elsewhere, but this is not intended to be that rudimentary. Projects list what you need and have written instructions with a few photographs of the item in progress for tricky parts, although not with every item.  Templates for appliqué etc are at the back but mostly it is a case of measuring out simple shapes while you learn about wadding, stitching methods and appliqué.  As well as tea and egg cozies you can find a mug hug, covers for hot water bottles, tablets, books and cellphones and fun ways of hiding away toilet rolls, tissue boxes and your sewing machine.  My favorite has to be the caravan shaped cover for a toaster!  The style is modern and bright, with playful designs featuring birds, beach huts, trees and umbrellas. This is a great way to learn about quilting and shows that it isnt all about large projects like bed covers, but can be used to make many smaller items more interesting.
