Sarah Ditchfield's candle-making journey started after her husband bought her a candle-making kit one Christmas. She developed her skills and began to experiment with different types of waxes, dyes and fragrances. Sarah sold many of her initial creations to independent shops, hotels and restaurants.
In 2012, Sarah launched her company, Candle by Events, which runs candle-making workshops for individuals and organizations. Her company also runs corporate events, parties and family fun days, all around candle-making, at locations across the UK. Besides in-person workshops, Candle by Events also produces candle-making kits and runs live online candle-making workshops.

Great book, really informative. A must for all candlemaking. Also went to one of Sarah's classes which was a really enjoyable day
Brought this as a gift for a friends birthday after her mentioning that she wanted to have a go at making her own, but after having a sneaky flick through I kept it for myself! Purchased the basics mentioned in the book and yesterday I made my first candle! The Mason glass one, and I have to say I'm very impressed. The book is idiot proof and highlights ability level for each candle so I'd say this book is great for first timers as well as people that have done it before as there are quite a few tricky ones too. Can't wait to make more this weekend, I'm looking at empty jars in a whole different way and saving a few quid as I often buy candles but can make my own now!
Absolutely fantastic I found this book. The instructions really helped me to do my first ever candles in perfect step by step. Beautiful scents Beautiful colours Beautiful mould
I would highly recommend this to anyone thinking to do first time candle making. I'm looking to do loads more in good time :)
Thank you very much for the chance to review this product.
Perfect to understand & easy step by steps.
Having enjoyed making candles as a child, I was really keen to have another go as an adult. This book is really informative and clearly details all the specialist equipment you will need before you begin. At first, this looked like a lot of equipment and almost put me off having a go but actually most of these items can be purchased easily and relatively cheaply on Amazon or in larger craft shops. I love the way the candles have been rated for ease of making and it's great that there are plenty of '1 flame' candles that I will be able to have a go at first before experimenting with some of the more adventurous designs. Each page has a thorough and clear list of equipment needed, along with step-by-step instructions and bright, colourful photographs of each stage and the finished product. I also like the variety of candle designs in this book which range from Flowerpot candles to Christmas Pudding candles. Candles can make great gifts but even more so when they have been handmade and chosen to suit the recipient. First on my list to make is the Beehive candle for my mother-in-law!
Having won this book on facebook to review I have to say it is fantastic. Plenty of projets to complete from the simple to the more complicated. Really sets out instructions clearly.
I would definately recommend this book if you are in interested in making candles especially for a beginner. It is very comprehensive and lists all of the different waxes that can be used to make candles explaining the pros and cons of each one. There are a number of different techniques listed and throughout the book there are recipes for different candles using these techniques. As somebody who has never made candles I feel happy that I could make a candle using this book. I have already been given some beeswax by a beekeeper friend. The best thing is knowing you can make your own candles and know what ingredients are going into them. What fun and I can't wait to start using this wonderful book.
Lots of information and clear concise instructions. Some beautiful designs. I have to admit to seeing the pictures and thinking 'that looks like fun and a nice gift to make'. I had not appreciated the amount of different pieces of equipment. For example, it had not occurred to me how many different types of wick there are! This is an excellent book to teach you about making candles, however it is not a hobby I would suggest you pick up on a whim without researching first!
The book starts by explaining what you need to start making candles and the list is surprisingly small and the items do not cost as much as I thought they would. Everything is explained very well and is really easy to understand from types of wax to wicks. There are a range of beautiful candles to try with very simple instructions. Each project is rated based on difficulty level. The book is very easy to navigate and straight forward. It's the perfect size to sit beside you on the kitchen counter when melting your wax. I love how all the projects are different and it also gives instructions for wax melts. I'm definately going to give candle and wax melts a go now. It's not anywhere near as complicated as it seems. I'd highly recommend this book it's a pleasure to read and has been put together beautifully.
This book is full of glossy pages that explain how to make awesome candles. I was looking for a hobby and this book on making candles, ticks all of the boxes regarding getting started. The book is very informative and the instructions are written in such a way, that makes them very easy to follow and understand. It details each individual step, so that you do not become overwhelmed. I really liked the complexity ratings, as this enabled me to start making the simpler candles. This book has given me lots of fantastic ideas on how to make lots of different candles and is well worth the money.
This really is a fantastic book that tells you everything you need to know to make lovely candles , i like the fact it shows you how to make candles for Christmas , valentines and halloween as well as decorative ones and practical ones like the citronella which will be great for summer bbq's, if your looking for a new hobby or want to make lovely candles as gifts this book is perfect , i only have one problem and that is which one to make next !
