64 Playful Patterns for Children by Renate Kirkpatrick
Tapestry Crochet is a brilliant new title from Renate Kirkpatrick. Introducing readers to new crochet techniques, this book presents a kaleidoscope of designs based on graphs to encourage experienced and beginner crocheters alike to try something new, expand their repertoire and enjoy themselves. 64 lovely patterns will inspire crochet workers to accomplish a functional and beautiful rug that will particularly appeal to children a bespoke heirloom that can be proudly passed down the generations.
Based on graphs like those used in cross-stitch embroidery, the designs in this book are very easy to follow. The layout that Renate has used to assemble the rug can be adapted and varied as you please to suit the person/child for whom the rug is intended and the room in which it will be used. You could work a number of colour variations of just a few designs, concentrate on toys or fruit, alternate the tapestry squares with squares of plain colour, make a smaller rug of 36 squares even put together four squares to make the face of a cushion cover.
Delve into your creative soul and find joy in crafting your own crochet rug!
Born in Germany in 1951, Renata Kirkpatrick grew up in windy Wollongong and in 1974 settled on the Sunshine Coast with her husband Glenn where they operate a small commercial Signwriting and Screen-printing business.
Renate can't remember a time when she wasn't exploring the fibre arts. She has experimented with pottery, exhibited and conducted workshops in papermaking, and has won a Fibre Art Award in rag rugging.
From 2002, as crochet made its huge resurgence, Renate's extensive knowledge in Traditional Tunisian (Tricot), Jacquard, Crochenit (double-ended hook) and more recently Freeform techniques has led to her conducting monthly workshops and weekly classes.
