Quilt-inspired patchwork blocks to mix and match by Leonie Morgan

Add to Basket
Book Description

49 beautiful crochet block patterns to mix and match.

This striking collection of colourful crocheted blocks is inspired by patchwork quilt block designs. The inspiration comes directly from the tradition of piecing together scraps of fabric and it also stems from the characteristics and stitches of crocheted pieces.

There are 49 fabulous blocks to make, which echo their stitched counterparts with names such as Flying Geese, Hourglass, Tumbling Blocks and Log Cabin and all of them can be put together into larger designs. Whether you are building up patterns with leftover yarn or setting out with a specific colour scheme in mind, this is a wonderfully creative process of creating a larger design from lots of smaller units.

There are four beautiful projects to make: a shoulder bag, a baby blanket, a geometric cushion and a beautiful lap blanket. A useful crochet techniques section describes the various stitches used, notes on colourwork and reading patterns and charts, and there is also advice on assembling the blocks and edging them. And, once you've got to grips with all of this, you can use the lovely blocks as inspiration to create your own lovely crocheted block pieces.

Customer Review

I love quilts, but don't sew, but I crochet. This is the nearest I have come to achieving that. The designs are lovely. The beginning of the book helps you understand the process. My daughter loves them all, I might have my work planned for a little while.

Customer Review

This book will enable me to learn how to use multiple colour yarns in the same shapes, adding more interest to the designs. I'm thrilled with my honeycomb! Having both the written and picture diagram patterns helps too and each are clearly presented.

Customer Review

Great book, patterns are just like cloth patchwork.

Machine Knitting Monthly

This striking collection is inspired by patchwork quilt block designs. Whether you're building up patterns with leftover yarn or working to a colour scheme, these 49 blocks can all be put together to make larger designs.

Amazon Customer Review

There are a lot of great blocks in this book, a few squared circles and some bobbles. They are mostly made using two stitches which makes them great for beginners. For the more experienced crocheter, they might be a bit too basic and similar to each other.

I really like the suggested layout plans with each block and there is also a fold out US to UK stitches conversion chart which is really handy when working.

All in all a really nice book, I'll be making a blanket using the cottage pattern for sure.

Customer Review

Fantastic for those that are a little bit more confident with crochet. Set out perfectly with written and chart instructions. Easy to follow.

Inside Crochet

Inspired by multicoloured quilting blocks, Leonie has created 49 crocheted patchwork blocks ideal for building up into treasured projects. Designs range from traditional flying geese and log cabins to stripes, steps and a large selection of colourwork designs. We are particularly love the cute cottage square, based on a classic quilting design. There are also triangles, diamonds and hexagonal blocks, and each pattern is written out and charted. The book finishes with four projects: a boho bag, two blankets and a contemporary and colourful cushion design.

Customer Review
